We believe the Bible to be inspired of God; the infallible word of God.
- How you have fallen from heaven,
O morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations!
- You said in your heart,
"I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne
above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. [a]
- I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High."
- But you are brought down to the grave,
to the depths of the pit.
- Those who see you stare at you,
they ponder your fate:
"Is this the man who shook the earth
and made kingdoms tremble,
- the man who made the world a desert,
who overthrew its cities
and would not let his captives go home?"
Ezekiel 28:11-19 (New International Version)
- The word of the LORD came to me:
- "Son of man, take up a lament
concerning the king of Tyre and say to him:
'This is what the Sovereign LORD says:
" 'You were the model of perfection,
full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
- You were in Eden,
the garden of God;
every precious stone adorned you:
ruby, topaz and emerald,
chrysolite, onyx and jasper,
sapphire, [a] turquoise and beryl. [b]
Your settings and mountings [c] were made of gold;
on the day you were created they were prepared.
- You were anointed as a guardian cherub,
for so I ordained you.
You were on the holy mount of God;
you walked among the fiery stones.
- You were blameless in your ways
from the day you were created
till wickedness was found in you.
- Through your widespread trade
you were filled with violence,
and you sinned.
So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God,
and I expelled you, O guardian cherub,
from among the fiery stones.
- Your heart became proud
on account of your beauty,
and you corrupted your wisdom
because of your splendor.
So I threw you to the earth;
I made a spectacle of you before kings.
- By your many sins and dishonest trade
you have desecrated your sanctuaries.
So I made a fire come out from you,
and it consumed you,
and I reduced you to ashes on the ground
in the sight of all who were watching.
- All the nations who knew you
are appalled at you;
you have come to a horrible end
and will be no more.' "
II. How did perfect man become sinful?
Man was created by G-d. Man called Adam and woman called Eve made as a help meet for Adam (Gen 1:26-27) were tricked by Satan and fell in sin.
Genesis 3
The Fall of Man
- Now the serpent (Satan) was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"
- The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,
- but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.' "
- "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman.
- "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
- When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
- Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
- Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
- But the LORD God called to the man, "Where are you?"
- He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid."
- And he said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"
- The man said, "The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it."
- Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?"
The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."
- So the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this,
"Cursed are you above all the livestock
and all the wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
- And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring [a] and hers;
he will crush [b] your head,
and you will strike his heel."
- To the woman he said,
"I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing;
with pain you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you."
- To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,'
"Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat of it
all the days of your life.
- It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
- By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return."
- Adam [c] named his wife Eve, [d] because she would become the mother of all the living.
- The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.
- And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever."
- So the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.
- After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side [e] of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
III. Why do we need salvation?
Romans 5:12, 16-19 (New International Version)
Death through Adam, Life through Christ
- Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man (Adam), and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned—
- Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification.
- For if, by the trespass of the one man (Adam), death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
- Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men.
- For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
IV. Who is Jesus?
Jesus is the Son of God and He was given to us for our salvation.
John 3:16:
- For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[a] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Isaiah 9:6 (New International Version)
- For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, [a] Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Matthew 1:21 (New International Version)
- She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, [a] because he will save his people from their sins."
Isaiah 53
- Who has believed our message
and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
- He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
- He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.
Like one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
- Surely he took up our infirmities
and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
smitten by him, and afflicted.
- But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
- We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to his own way;
and the LORD has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
- He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before her shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
- By oppression [a] and judgment he was taken away.
And who can speak of his descendants?
For he was cut off from the land of the living;
for the transgression of my people he was stricken. [b]
- He was assigned a grave with the wicked,
and with the rich in his death,
though he had done no violence,
nor was any deceit in his mouth.
- Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
and though the LORD makes [c] his life a guilt offering,
he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.
- After the suffering of his soul,
he will see the light of life [d] and be satisfied [e] ;
by his knowledge [f] my righteous servant will justify many,
and he will bear their iniquities.
- Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, [g]
and he will divide the spoils with the strong, [h]
because he poured out his life unto death,
and was numbered with the transgressors.
For he bore the sin of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors.
V. Why did Jesus have to die for our sins?
Hebrews 9:22 (New International Version)
- In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
Leviticus 17:11 (New International Version)
- For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life.
Refer back to question Number 3.
VI. I live a good life why must I be saved?
Because of the sin of Adam all men are born into sin and therefore need salvation.
Romans 5:12(New International Version)
Death through Adam, Life through Christ
- Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man (Adam), and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned—
VII. What must I do to be saved?
- Confess That Jesus is the Son of God. That He was sent by God, lived among us, was crucified, dead and buried and rose again on the third day.
For example you might say, “I Confess That Jesus is the Son of God. That He was sent by God, lived among us, was crucified, dead and buried and rose again on the third day.
Romans 10:8-9 (New International Version)
- But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,"[a] that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming:
- That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Ephesians 2:8 (New International Version)
- For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—
Ephesians 2:7-9 (New International Version)
- in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
- For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—
- not by works, so that no one can boast.
Ephesians 2
Made Alive in Christ
- As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,
- in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and
of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in
those who are disobedient.
- All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of
our sinful nature[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest,
we were by nature objects of wrath.
- But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
- made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it
is by grace you have been saved.
- And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly
realms in Christ Jesus,
- in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches
of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
- For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from
yourselves, it is the gift of God—
- not by works, so that no one can boast.
- For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works,
which God prepared in advance for us to do.
One in Christ
- Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called "uncircumcised" by those who call themselves "the circumcision" (that done in the body by the hands of men)—
- remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.
- But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.
- For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,
- by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace,
- and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.
- He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.
- For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.
- Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household,
- built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.
- In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.
- And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
To repent of your sins means to be Godly sorry and to be willing to turn and stop sinning.
For example you might say, “Jesus, I confess all my sins, known and unknown. I am sorry for all my sin. I renounce all my sin. I forgive all others as I want You to forgive me. Forgive me now Jesus and cleanse me with Your blood. I thank You for Your blood that cleanses me now from all my sin and I come boldly to You now as my deliverer and my salvation. I claim the promise of Your word that “Whosoever that call upon Your name shall be saved.” I call upon You now in Your name Jesus, deliver me and set me free. I give myself wholly to You Jesus. I thank You for Your forgiveness and for Your salvation. In Jesus name! Amen!
Acts 3:19 (New International Version)
- Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,
Luke 13:5 (New International Version)
- I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish."
Continuing your relationship in Christ
- Water Baptism in Jesus name.
Romans 6:4 (New International Version)
- We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
Acts 2:38 (New International Version)
- Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
- Receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Luke 11:9-13 (New International Version)
- So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
- For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
- Which of you fathers, if your son asks for[a] a fish, will give him a snake instead?
- Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
- If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"
What must I do to receive the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is a free gift from God. All you have to do is ask for it.
- If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!
How do I know I have received the Holy Spirit?
Acts 2: 2-4
- Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
- They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
- All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.
Acts 19:1-6 (New International Version)
Paul in Ephesus
- While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples
- and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when[a] you believed?"
They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."
- So Paul asked, "Then what baptism did you receive?"
"John's baptism," they replied.
- Paul said, "John's baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus."
- On hearing this, they were baptized into[b] the name of the Lord Jesus.
- When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues[c] and prophesied.
Do I really need the Holy Spirit?
John 3:1-8 (New International Version)
Jesus Teaches Nicodemus
- Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council.
- He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him."
- In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.[a]"
- "How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"
- Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
- Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit.
- You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You[c] must be born again.'
- The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."
